Statement
Inspiration:
The majority of my work is inspired by stories, characters, organic forms, musical ideas and mythological tales. I have a double life as a classical musician, and music deeply influences my work. As in nature, there are few straight lines in my work, and in keeping with certain elements of nature, I enjoy a vivid color palette.
Artistic Ideals:
I very much enjoy the thought "what if?" and find that my most creative expression comes from asking that question. The results are little worlds of wonder, influenced by surrealism, philosophical precepts, and both musical and pop culture.
Current Projects:
I find powerful inspiration in the woodland near my house, where I walk every day. This connection was made more intense with the successful completion of a long project to conserve 150 acres of woodland property in New Hampshire on behalf of my father. I am currently working on a body of work in support of woodland conservation. We must succeed on a massive scale if we hope to maintain the health of our planet.
During the pandemic, our performing and visual arts studio turned to digital formats (as did we all), leading me to master some of the tools available for digital painting. While continuing to paint in oils, I also create artwork in the digital format for illustrations, concert programs and album covers.
