Das Rhinemädchen
Rhinemaidens are water-nymphs in Wagner's Ring Cycle. The likely origin of his Rhinemaidens is the German Nibelungenlied which include tales of nixies. Nixies could assume various shapes, usually half human, half fish. They could do favors for humans, particularly teaching them bewitching music, but they were treacherous.
