In Greek mythology, Gaia is the ancestral mother of all life: the primal Mother Earth goddess.
Gaia is believed by some sources to be the original deity behind the Oracle at Delphi. It was thus said: "That word spoken from tree-clad mother Gaia's (Earth's) navel-stone, Delphoi. Depending on the source, Gaia passed her powers on to Poseidon, Apollo, or Themis.
